Are we too struggling with our choices? Do we know the Purpose of our existence or what could give us Happiness/Peace? Sita’s dilemma explores the concept of ‘Holistic Dharma’ and “New Age Maslow’ to explore a possible path for discovering self.
“We did not evolve from Apes to become Rats.” ~ K Srini
Our purpose and existence are beyond self and the immediate gratifications we obtain from the materialist gains. Many a times, we realize that an imbalance between Self / Others and Righteous / Any Means necessary, attitude leaves us with a feeling of Vacuum / Unwanted / Loneliness.
For the holistic approach our theme should be to co-exist and serve others and in here by others we mean and include a wide range of stakeholders ranging from our immediate family to community to Nation to mankind as a human race itself. Let us examine each of these Dharmas / duties.
*In the context, for this study we will define Dharma as ‘Our action (service) to the best of who we are and what we can do each moment of our life without feeling obligated to do so’
We will further define Dharma across the 7 dimensions based on our life’s journey or the criticality (importance) / our favourites with no particular order. However, what is important is that we need to appreciate and spend time across all these 7 dimensions at least once in every 7 days (week) so as to ensure we have a holistic approach towards our life and not be limited to self-serving alone.
The seven dharmas are:
- Vocational
- Vocational Dharma in simple words is your ‘Calling/objective in this life’
- Self Well Being
- Self Well-being is about Sleep, Food, Breaks / Vacations etc. a good healthy balance between these becomes fulfilling an especially important dharma which is – Taking Care of Self.
- Occupational (Job)
- Occupational Dharma is the ‘Accepted Responsibility’ which we do either as part of life such as studies during the student life or Job as part of adult life.
- Universal
- As a Race (Human Beings) we have obligations and duty too and those who fall under Universal Dharma. Our duty towards the Environment, Ecology, our Planet environment are equally important and critic-a
- Relationship
- Relationship Dharma focuses on this love, connection and emotional energy between us and our spouse / children / friends/parents / siblings / co-workers even pets etc.
- Community
- Community as a dharma encompasses our responsibility towards our neighbourhood, town, village, city, state, country etc.
- Spiritual
- Nurture our Soul and move towards Transcendence
