More than just a career path or a personal passion,\u00a0<em>ikigai<\/em>\u00a0is about finding a deep sense of purpose\u2014a reason to get up in the morning, a guiding star that brings meaning and joy to your life.<\/p>\n<p>But how do you find this elusive balance? Let\u2019s explore the components of\u00a0<em>ikigai<\/em>, the steps you can take to discover your own, and a personal story of how I, Cassandra Gaisford\u2014The Joyful Artist, found mine.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-understanding-ikigai-the-four-elements\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Understanding Ikigai: The Four Elements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Imagine\u00a0<em>ikigai<\/em>\u00a0as a Venn diagram where four circles overlap:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What you love (Passion)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The activities that light you up, bring you joy, and make you lose track of time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>What the world needs (Mission)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The contributions you can make that help others or create a positive impact.<\/li>\n<li><strong>What you can be paid for (Profession)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Your skills, talents, and areas of expertise that provide financial support.<\/li>\n<li><strong>What you are good at (Vocation)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Your natural abilities, strengths, and areas where you can excel.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>True\u00a0<em>ikigai<\/em>\u00a0exists where all four elements intersect. Without one, something is missing:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you have\u00a0<strong>passion and mission<\/strong>\u00a0but no profession, you may struggle financially.<\/li>\n<li>If you have\u00a0<strong>profession and vocation<\/strong>\u00a0but no passion, you may feel empty or uninspired.<\/li>\n<li>If you have\u00a0<strong>mission and vocation<\/strong>\u00a0but no financial reward, you may feel undervalued or burnt out.<\/li>\n<li>If you have\u00a0<strong>passion and profession<\/strong>\u00a0but no impact, you may feel disconnected from a deeper purpose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<h3 id=\"h-my-ikigai-becoming-the-joyful-artist-during-the-pandemic\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>My Ikigai: Becoming The Joyful Artist During the Pandemic<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>During the pandemic, my world turned upside down. Like so many others, I faced uncertainty, isolation, and fear. But I also discovered something life-changing\u2014my\u00a0<em>ikigai<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>With the world in chaos, I turned to my art. At first, it was simply a form of self-care\u2014a way to escape the noise and ground myself in joy. But something remarkable happened. As I shared my work online, people reached out, telling me how my vibrant paintings lifted their spirits during dark times.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s when it clicked. My passion for painting, my mission to inspire joy, my vocation as a creative, and my profession as an artist could all align.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-106c07d3b5fc1f78fdc04ce4a7bad72d\">I realized that my purpose wasn\u2019t just creating art\u2014it was helping others feel joy through creativity.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t always easy. Self-doubt crept in. Would anyone really pay for my art? But I kept going, driven by the joy I felt and the joy I shared. Slowly, The Joyful Artist was born\u2014not just as a brand, but as a way of living. My art became a bridge, connecting my soul with others\u2019 hearts.<\/p>\n<p>This is\u00a0<em>ikigai<\/em>\u2014living in the sweet spot where passion, purpose, and profession meet.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-steps-to-find-your-ikigai\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9aea266fc009d3e0946a6d1c1ee802a2\"><strong>Steps to Find Your Ikigai<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4 id=\"h-1-look-inward-identify-what-you-love\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.\u00a0<strong>Look Inward: Identify What You Love<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Reflect on the moments when you feel most alive. What activities absorb your attention fully? What topics could you talk about for hours? These might include technical abilities, soft skills, or natural talents. When Bree and her mum visited my studio, they shared the really sad and unexpected passing of their much-loved dad and husband last year.<\/p>\n<p>They fell in love with two paintings and left smiling.\u00a0 It\u2019s so lovely that art can help heal the hole in our hearts this way.<\/p>\n<p>As Picasso so sagely said, \u201cArt washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.\u201d Joan Mitchell once said, \u201cPut your feelings in there.
